Subject: First review... I DESTROYED SHAKESPEARE!!! Woohoo!

Okay, I didn't destroy Shakespeare, but I assisted in destroying one of his subplots, according to the first review in.

Here's the review in full

Well, we ran slightly afoul of a Shakespeare purist which led to some of the flack we got. Okay, just about all of the flack we got. Apparently our performances saved it at least.

Of course, I'm not used to "original" being used as a critisicm, but hey, that's just me I guess. Our take, according to her "weaken a play that should be simple and rely on the wittiness of the plot and words themselves", because we all know Shakespearean productions are, and have always been, performed in strict subtlety, dignity and not meant to pander to the audience at all *rolls eyes*.

Meh, it's a criticism from an avowed purist, so what could I expect. It would have been nice for her to point out that everyone else in the audience seemed to find it entertaining, but hey, that's just me. Otherwise, I smile, raise a middle finger at tradition and merrily vow to continue my way.

My suggestion: if we end up doing ninja pirate Shakespeare, not only do we invite the reviewer to the premiere, but we dedicate the production to her as well!

Oh, and there's a second review, but it's not online yet. The review is much better in terms of what they thought of the show, but on the other hand the review is bad in terms of quality of commentary. Still, they at least acknowledged that it was funny.

That, and my friend got into fringe festival. This bodes well...
