SIMPLE MUSIC, SIMPLE LIVES
Yup, you heard it right, we’ve pulled the plug. We’ve gone acoustic!
As promised, Search For The Star In A Million is playing beautiful unplugged music, complete with a thirteen-piece orchestra! As Mr. Pure Energy Gary V. puts it, acoustic is the purest form of music. “It’s the sound of music when it was first conceived.” Just plain beautiful.
And who better make beautiful music than the Champions League! Tonight, they sing simple beautiful music and they tell their simple stories.
Also tonight, our host Christian Bautista and guest co-host Rachelle Anne Go reveal their simple joys. Rachelle reveals her favorite noodle dish is palabok. “Hindi ka pwedeng magpalabok tonight,” Christian banters. That’s right, because tonight, it’s all about simplicity. No palabok.
What does soul sound like? Well, it sounds like Jorell Canuel. But what happens when Mr. Soul goes Acoustic? Jorell sings “Whenever, Wherever, Whatever”. Searcher Wyngard Tracy is confused. Is he wearing a barong or kimono? Nevertheless, Jorell fails to impress tonight. And his dreams of landing himself on the covers of a songhits is uncertain tonight.
After Jorell, the Boy Next Door Myke Caluma reminisces his fast food days--or their non-existence. After losing both his parents, Myke found it difficult to make ends meet, and that meant not eating fast food as often as he used to. To compensate, he made his own french fries from a few palengke-bought potatoes. Myke sings “I Will Be Here”. The big question: Will He be in the Danger Zone or the Hit Zone? Let’s just say he’s going to get his fast food tonight!
After the gap, it’s Dianafe Castillo’s turn. Our Teen Belter’s simple life in the kitchen of their restaurant sometimes meant washing loads and loads of dishes. If Regine Velasquez practices submerged in water, this belle practices with her hands submerged in the soapy dish waters. Does it pay off with her rendition of “Eternal Flame?” Direk Rowell comments, “Ramdam ko ang kaba mo. It’s working against you”. Hmmm…looks like marami ka pang huhugasang plato Dianafe!
Pop Honey Nikki Bacolod wants to make it in showbiz so she can buy more jeans! Instead of the usual hand-me-downs, she wants to buy brand new clothes like the artistas. She sings “Especially For You”. Ms. Agot Isidro appreciates the special rendition and adds that Nikki has proven she’s not just a pretty face.
The next batch of Searchees are Christine Fernandez and Jerome Sala. Sexy Lady Christine talks about her high school life, and how all through out she only had one pair of shoes from first year to fourth year. Thus, the passion for shoes. “Mahirap maging kikay na walang pera,” she says of her imeldific ambitions.
Tonight, the sexy lady in red tries acoustic with “You Were There”. Wyngard thinks her performance is limp like her hair, and her Broadway style is uncalled for. Before giving the verdict Agot asks, “binabagayan mo ba yung chair?”. Red dress, red shoes, Danger zone? Hmmm…Tonight is Christine’s fourth consecutive night in the red chair.
Right before his performance Jerome talks about his simple life in Bohol. Out of poverty, he has eaten all kinds of kamoteng kahoy dishes—from boiled to steamed, to ginataan. Will he be digging for kamoteng kahoy tonight? Certainly not! Direk Rowell is impressed with his newfound stage presence and his rendition of “Maybe This Time”. Even Jerome’s father couldn’t help but sing along with his balladeer extraordinaire son’s tune!
Time for the last batch of Searchees! And by this time, Christian is serenading Rachelle with “The Way You Look At Me”. “Para surefire hit, dapat gayahin nila ang style ko,” he says. “Dapat may lambing, swabe, parang harana.” And on that cue, he goes down on one knee to serenade Rachelle Anne. Aaaah. Young Love.
First among the last group is Fab & Funky Mabel Bacusmo. Onscreen she talks animatedly about the days she would buy vinegar in the nearby sari-sari store and the time she was caught by her crush in carrying a bottle of suka while wearing pyjamas. Mabel blushes at the thought, but the suspenseful events tonight only leave her teary-eyed. She sings “Fall For You”. Wyngard Tracy immediately falls for her rendition. She is assigned to the Hit Zone.
Star On The Rise Ryan Racal explains how he got his muscles—by carrying wood from their lumber business! Secretly wanting to enroll in a gym, but without the means, he carried wood to develop his muscles. Will such perseverance pay off tonight? “Love Moves in Mysterious Ways” he says, but there’s no lovin’ from the Searchers tonight. He lands in the Danger Zone.
Last but not the least is Jona Lumbera. This Glam Rocker used to be the subject of jeers. Her neighbors once called her kalansay and their house haunted! But no spooks for Jona tonight though--“What’s Up”? She’s a Hit!
After the nine Searchees have performed onstage, it’s time to know them offstage—dirty laundry including! First miss—the boys' room! The girls agree the boys’ room is undoubtedly messy. They also reveal quiet Myke is quite the opposite, he’s a telebabad actually! The biggest revelation though comes not from the Searchees but from a Searchee’s mother, Dianafe’s mother, feisty Mommy Fe—herself a paradox of hits and misses because of her outspokenness, making her quite controversial among the Searchees. Nevertheless, Mommy Fe doesn’t flinch and daughter Dianafe doesn’t leave her side.
Controversial? A look back at the eliminated Searchees’ no holds barred confessions in the Voice Box, the Searchees’ tell-all confessional booth, proves real controversial! First eliminated Searchee Veejay Aragon regrets being thrown off course by the League’s weakest. Hans Lee misses the simple thrills of being a member of the Champions’ League—receiving study tapes, going to the dressing room, and to rehearsals. While last week’s eliminated Searchee Billy Joel Bartolome affirms his support for Pop Honey Nikki.
Back to the competition, the Searchers announce the Searchees to join the Hit Zone as well as the two Searchees who will remain in the Danger Zone. The two Searchees are Christine and Dianafe. The two sing their songs for, possibly for one of them, the last time.
It was Christine’s last. Christian and Rachelle pay tribute to her with an acoustic version of “Time To Say Goodbye”.
But not for the eight remaining Searchees: Jorell, Myke, Nikki, Jerome, Mabel, Ryan, Jona and Dianafe who will fight it off in the fifth elimination night of the Grand Finals Season of the Search For The Star In A Million. And next week, it’s time once again to shine brighter because it’s APO Night! The Searchees are singing classic APO songs and compositions! Who will Hit and who will Miss? There’s only one way to find out! Tune in to Search For The Star In A Million every Sunday and witness the starmaking at its finest!

My Choice, My Song, My Life
There is, in the Philippines, a national anthem that’s almost always sung where a karaoke and a microphone exists. And no, sorry, but it’s not the Lupang Hinirang.
Listen carefully and you’ll hear echoes of a lonesome stranger pouring out his soul over a bottle of beer, releasing his bottled up emotions, his sorrow, his happiness—His story. Chances are that story is about life, the uphill climbs, the pitfalls, and the choices. And how above it all, the most important thing is that you did it your way…like Frank Sinatra in his immortal ultimate lifestory anthem, “My Way”.
Yes way. Tonight, Easter, we’re going their way. It’s the story of their lives. The Searchees sing the songs they are made of. The songs that make them laugh and cry—the soundtracks of their lives. Their own national anthem. And maybe yours, too.
Bring out the hankies. Here’s one for Maalaala mo kaya…Dear Charo…
First letter sender, er, Searchee is Heartthrob Billy Joel Bartolome. He’s singing his love story, Alamid’s “Your Love”, dedicated to the special someone who inspires him... hmmm… Who could it be??? Are the Searchers inspired to assign him to the Hit Zone? Sorry Romeo, it’s the Danger Zone!!!
Moving on, Sexy Lady Christine Fernandez is singing “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me”. Hmmm… Is this an answer to “Your Love?” Hmmm… Let’s see…The Searchers are still uninspired to assign her to the Hit Zone.
Fab and Funky Mabel Bacusmo’s up next. She’s singing her story entitled, “On My Own”. And just like that, she’s alone, on her own but happy in the Hit Zone!
After the break our Champions Sarah, Erik and Christian sing and reminisce their own theme songs. Remember Sarah and her once only “Pangarap na Bituin”, now within reach? Who could forget Erik take flight in “I Believe I Can Fly?” And how about Christian’s “I’ll Be” turning into reality? Will our Searchees have the same fate?
Certainly Teen Belter Dianafe Castillo is in the running. She’s impressed the judges tonight with her heartfelt rendition of “Wind Beneath My Wings”. Pop Honey is third to follow in the Hit Zone with “Because You Loved Me”. Hmmm… Who Loved Nikki??? Hmmm… The Searchers surely did love her tonight. Anyone else?
Mr. Soul Jorell Canuel’s choice of song, “Stay The Same” was praised, but not his singing. So is Boy Next Door Myke Caluma who is praised for his new do, but not his rendition of “Knocks Me Off My Feet”. Tonight, his feet leads him to the Danger Zone, unlike Glam Rocker Jona Lumbera for whom Wyngard Tracy would stake his name for a spot in the Hit Zone!
Last two performers on the list are Balladeer Extraordinaire Jerome Sala and Star On The Rise Ryan Racal. Jerome sings his prize-winning “The Promise”, the song he owes his tuition fee, his cellphone, and his cd components to. But tonight doesn’t show much promise. He lands in the Danger Zone. Ryan is hoping to go the opposite way. “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas” his winning streak this last few weeks? Looks like there is no end for the streak tonight! Ryan is the only male Searchee to land in the Hit Zone.
Meanwhile, add this to the MMK stories tonight, a love triangle starring Christine, Billy Joel and Nikki! Hmmm, so who inspires Billy? Christine or Nikki? Christine? Nikki? What’s this about Nikki getting jealous over Christine? Is she still jealous Christine and Billy Joel are holding hands as they are left behind in the Danger Zone? The drama heats up! Billy and Christine settle for a showdown.
Suddenly, the triangle is broken.
Christine leaves Billy for the Hit Zone. As for Billy, it’s a sad Paalam Na as he bids goodbye to the remaining Searchees Christine, Mabel, Dianafe, Jorell, Myke, Jona, Jerome, Ryan and dear Nikki.
Happy endings, Sad endings. Hit Zones and Danger Zones. They’ve sung their songs. One said goodbye. But as was said before the important thing is, and Ol’ blue eyes couldn’t have said it better… And more, much more than this, I did it my way. Tonight, they did it their way. Next week, it’s Acoustic Night in Search For The Star In A Million!

Chichirya Night
There’s a couch bigger than any you’ve ever seen, and fits potatoes of all shapes and sizes! This one if for all the couch potatoes, the perfect excuse to stay home and enjoy the warm Sunday night as the country’s hippest and funkiest multimedia star search brings you Chichirya night. Ready? Sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
Sunday can only be described as a star-studded, blockbuster red carpet premiere for the eleven remaining searchees who might still be mending their broken hearts after Veejay Aragon was eliminated on, yes you heard it right, Heartbreak week. Not to stay “single” for long, one Searchee will follow Veejay as tonight (drumroll please) is the second elimination night of the Grand Finals Season of Search For The Star In A Million.
As usual, we have nothing but the best, the stellar cast of Dirty Harry, erm, Wyngard Tracy, Leading Lovely Lady Agot Isidro and guest Searcher, Mr. Shades himself, Randy Santiago. At the helm are Sarah Geronimo and Mark Bautista. It’s movie themes tonight! Suspense and drama on the menu! Your favorite movie’s on us! Here we go!
First, a trip to Milan, Italy as Mr. Soul Jorell Canuel serenaded us with “The Gift”. Indeed, this boy has the gift of song! The searchers were truly impressed. Fasten your seatbelts, it’s time travel to the 50’s as the Glam Rocker Jona Lumbera performs “There You’ll Be” from the movie Pearl Harbor. Explosive! From Milan to Pearl Harbor, get ready for a visitor from the after-life as Casper comes alive in Dianafe Castillo’s rendition of “Remember Me This Way”. She is remembered alright, but not in the way she wants to be: as the first Searchee in the dreaded Twilight, erm, Danger Zone.
After the break, Balladeer Extraordinaire Jerome Sala rendered an extraordinary performance of the theme from the movie of the same title, “Ikaw”. Pop dreamboy Hans Lee’s performance of the theme from Notting Hill, “When You Say Nothing At All” did not leave the Searchers speechless. He joined Dianafe in the Danger Zone. Last from this batch is Boy Next Door Myke Caluma with the theme from Lion King, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”. Well, the question was answered: the Searchers felt the lovin’! He joined the Hit Zone!
Sexy Lady Christine Fernandez took on “Take My Breath Away”, theme from Tom Cruise movie, Top Gun. Unfortunately, she did not leave the Searchers breathless with this performance. Pop Honey Nikki Bacolod performed the theme from Armageddon, “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”. And she didn’t Miss! Next performer Fab & Funky Mabel Bacusmo sang Moulin Rouge’s “One Day I’ll Fly Away”. She sangs, she flew, she soared to the Hit Zone.
Last up, heartthrob Billy Joel Bartolome and Star On The Rise Ryan Racal. After being in the Danger Zone last week, Billy Joel proved he can take on any “Pagsubok” and succeed. He impressed the Searchers with the theme from Robin Padilla’s Hari Ng Selda. Last but definitely not the least, Ryan performed West Side Story’s “Somewhere”. That “somewhere” proved to be the Hit Zone.
Suspense! Suspense! Suspense! More popcorn please! Christine Fernandez gets out of the Danger Zone, leaving Hans Lee and Dianafe Castillo. Showdown starts, the two sing with all their heart, but yet again, one heart has to be broken. Pop Dreamboy Hans Lee is the second eliminated Searchee.
Back to Reality. All movies have to end, good as they may be. Some have sad endings, some have happy endings. But no matter how some things end up the way they do, life must go on. And this spectacular show must go on! Ten Searchees compete next week as their songs and their lives shine on the next episode of Search For The Star In A Million!
