Regine Hosts Search for 'Pinoy Pop Superstar'
AS part of its 54th anniversary treat to the viewing public, GMA Network
airs "Pinoy Pop Superstar" on July 3, Saturday.
"Pinoy Pop Superstar" is a competition that will bring many a young
hopefuls' dreams closer to reality. Hosted by Asia's Songbird, Regine
Velasquez, "Pinoy Pop Superstar" will see hundreds of talented aspirants
who managed to pass the series of stern auditions conducted by Arsi
Baltazar, which were held recently at the GMA Network Center.
Velasquez, whose flourishing career started when she joined and
triumphantly won a singing contest, will play fairy godmother to three
young hopefuls that will compete every Saturday for the weekly title.
Although they have to have pleasing personalities and superb talents, the
"Pinoy Pop Superstar" qualified aspirants have to undergo image and
personality enhancements to boost their confidence. The team who will
assist in grooming the contenders include designer Pepsi Herrera, make-up
artist George Bantolino, singer Sushi Reyes, choreographer Andrew Ferraris
and stage director Freddie Santos.
Armed with talent and charm, the contestants will try to outshine each
other to pass the standards of the "Pinoy Pop Superstar" judges, namely
arranger-composer Danny Tan, soul diva Jaya and TV director Floy Quintos.
The contestants will be judged based on their voice quality,
interpretation, stage presence, star quality, popular appeal and X-factor.
The weekly elimination round winner will have to challenge the defending
champion to bag the weekly title and prize. First prize winner of the week
will get P20,000 in cash while the champion receives P50,000.
"Pinoy Pop Superstar" weekly champions who manage to defend his title for
four consecutive weeks will qualify for the Grand Finals. If the
contestants win for eight straight weeks, he automatically graduates from
being the defending champion.
After 40 weeks of competition, there will be a semi-finals where the judges
will choose three most outstanding weekly champions. A music video will be
produced for each of the finalists and on the 9th month, the final
contestants will be billeted in a house where their activities will be
chronicled.
The three finalists will vie for the "Pinoy Pop Superstar" title and its
corresponding grand champion prizes such as a house and lot, a brand new
car, P1,000,000 in cash and a recording contract under GMA Records.
"Pinoy Pop Superstar," directed by Louie Ignacio,
airs its pilot episode on
Saturday, July 3, at 5:30 p.m.
