CLARK'S 26 POINTS, 18 BOARDS LEADS No. 3 UNION TO WIN OVER No. 21 BERRY
Lady Bulldogs Win 71-56 As Wetherington Leads Outmanned Lady Vikes With 16

MOUNT BERRY, Ga....Stephanie Clark scored 26 points and hauled in 18 rebounds to lead No. 3 Union University to a 71-56 victory over No. 21 Berry College in a TranSouth Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Ford Gym in Mount Berry, Ga., Thursday.

Clark scored 18 of her points in the second half. She was 13-for-17 from the field in the game. Christina Smith added 1 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 15-1 overall and 3-0 in TranSouth action.

The Lady Vikings (14-5, 0-3) were led by Britney Wetherington's 16 points and seven rebounds. Lauren Phillips and Deana Duncan scored 12 points to join Wetherington in double figures.

Earlier in the day, Berry head coach Jim Izard announced that his squad would be without the services of sophomore guard Neeley McDaniel and sophomore forward Whitney Deal due to injuries. McDaniel will be out at least six weeks, and Deal is out for the season, according to Izard.

The loss marked the fourth straight game in which the Lady Vikings were unable to gain Izard his 400th career victory. Izard and the Lady Vikings will try again Saturday at 2 p.m., when they host Lyon College.

MARTINESSI LEADS No. 11 UNION TO 67-64 VICTORY OVER BERRY COLLEGE THURSDAY
Berry's Reddell Picks Up 600th Point, 500th Rebound In Loss

MOUNT BERRY, Ga....Berry College's Jonathan Reddell scored the 600th point and grabbed the 500th rebound of his career, but was overshadowed by Union's Bruno Martinessi, who scored 21 points and hauled in 13 rebounds as the 11th ranked Bulldogs defeated host Berry 67-64 in the TranSouth Athletic Conference opener for both teams Thursday in Mount Berry, Ga.

The game was a back-and-forth affair for much of the night. In fact, it was so close in the first half that neither team led by more than four points until Pierry Valmera gave Union a 32-26 lead with 2:20 left in the first half. After Union scored again to take a 34-26 lead, the Vikings cut the Union advantage to 35-33 at halftime.

The Vikings and Bulldogs would trade leads throughout the night, with the teams combining for 21 lead changes and seven ties. Neither team led by more than six points in the second half.

Union took the lead for the final time when Ben Fredericks bucket gave the Bulldogs a 62-61 lead with just over two minutes to play. Trailing 65-64, the Vikings had a chance to take the lead with 10 seconds to play, but an errant inbounds pass ended Berry's hopes of a victory.

The close game should come as no surprise to fans that have followed this series. Last year, both meeting went into overtime, as the Vikings came out on the winning end in both games.

Cameron Fitch and Ben Elliott led Berry with 13 points each, while Reddell and Mitch Webb chipped in 12 apiece.

Frederick joined Martinessi in double figures for Union with 13 points.

Berry returns to action this Saturday against Lyon College at Ford Gymat 4 p.m.
