Hi, Geraint,

Thanks for setting us straight. I'm sure no insult was intended--I can't speak for the person who made up the subject line, but the slash between Wales and England gives me the impression that they are indeed separate countries (a comma would have been another story), and that they were mentioned together because Robert Newton's home, though in England, was very close to the border with Wales. (And the person who posted it was mentioning some nearby towns in Wales in connection with Robert Newton.)

Speaking for myself, I totally support Welsh culture, language, and independence, but I have to say it is a little confusing from this side of the pond to know what's proper, as I have had correspondence with people in Wales who give their address as simply "Cardiff, UK"--without mentioning Wales at all, making me think they're quite happy to be assimilated. (I was surprised by the omission and did feel compelled to insert "Wales" when writing back.) I don't know a lot about it, but it seems that, as in Northern Ireland and even Cornwall, there are strong feelings on both sides of the issue. Is there a good website you would recommend for people wanting to know more about the issue? (The ones you posted are informative but seem kind of general and localized, unless I'm missing something.)

Diolch yn fawr!
