The adjudicator’s responses are all subjective, but I think it is very important to take their comments into consideration. Like Dr. O said the adjudicators are usually seasoned professionals. They may be able to approach the ensemble from a different direction or point of view and see or hear things that you as the director or ensemble member would not have known about. It is important to hear what others have to say because you may fall into a pattern, or only look at certain aspects and not see the whole picture. I also think that a conductor should find a medium between what Gary experienced and what Nickie experienced in high school. I think that you should push your ensemble to do well but that everything should not evolve around what your rating may be, but also I think that you should take the comments into consideration.

I agree with most everyone. I think that all ajudicators have had different experiences in their ensemble settings and because of that they will all have different opinions about how to utilize your ensemble based on those experiences. I would say that I think ajudicated events, not necessarily contests, are very beneficial because it may give you ideas that had not occurred to you before. Also with that though you need to know the limitations of what your ensemble can do and you should never sacrifice the overall sound of your ensemble for a comment from an ajudicator who saw one performance that you gave.
