I HIGHLY recommend these jazz clinics for anyone who thinks they might ever direct a jazz band. The "Teaching Improv" workshop, especially, is accessible and cheap. You'll be hard pressed to find this much info so quickly and reasonably. Summer workshops are one of the very best ways of improving your knowledge and skills, and of beefing up your resume. It's this type of thing which separates your resume from everyone else's and makes you stand out in the job market.

For those interested in elementary teaching I would recommend looking into ORFF or KODALY workshops in the summer. The Orff Level I certification is especially useful and looks great on your resume as well. It's a two-week program and is more expensive ($400-500 plus expenses) but it's really worth it.
