I agree with several others when I say that you should hold auditions. We do often have a particular soloist in mind, however we must go through the motions for two reasons 1) fairness to each and every interested student, and 2) you may have a student who really surprises you!!

I think you should still hold auditions, if there is someone better out there and you didnt know you may discover them and that would be cool. I dont think its right to go in a know who you want to do the solo because then you are ruling out other people who are talented.
