I think that if you were put in that situation you should talk to administration about offering other music courses as they fit with your free time. Of course the reason the school does not offer these extra courses may be because they do not have the funds. To still teach a more broad view of music you should incorporate theory and history into the curriculum. Perhaps a general view of the history and a paper would give students more background on the music they are playing. I think that your idea about reserving days for rehearsal and others for theory is a great idea. Another way to give the students more playing time would be to have them spend three hours a week in a practice room during their study halls.
