My daughter is 8 years old and diagnosed as dyslexic and dyspraxic. She is currently in year 4 at primary school. She is given 10 spellings a week with words such as, entertainment, dictionary, and motherhood. Needless to say she is finding them very difficult and is getting very upset and frustrated when trying to learn them. Some weeks she can learn most of them, but this week she got 2 right. She was made to miss her playtime and practice them. When she came home she was very upset and embarrassed. I have told her teacher that i do not want her to miss her playtime in future. Her teacher is well meaning but does not seem to understand what being dyslexic means. Advice on how to approach teacher in future and on helping child with spelling would be very welcome.
