Title: Destination Berlin
Author: S.G. Cardin
Publisher: Writer's Showcase
ISBN#: 1-595-16419-6
format: Paperback
Rating 5 *****Stars

Corporal Sharon Cates was the daughter of a decorated Vietnam War hero,
it's no wonder she decided to go into the Army. Her father lost his
life there, for his country, and Sharon had decided that she would
follow in his footsteps. She became a exemplary soldier.

Dimitri Nagory's father had been in the service for his country too, the
Soviet Union. Dimitri knew when the time came, he would have to serve
too. But Dimitri planned for that time. He had no love of war and
planned to stay as far away from the front lines of it as he could.

Sharon had just been promoted, just broke up with a her boyfriend Damien
Eddington. Eddington didn't like being jilted or cheated on.

Sharon was scheduled to go to Berlin for an Orientation Tour on a train
the next day. After getting her orders and attending a party the night
before in which she was met by her ex-boyfriend Sharon was ready for a
change of scenery.

On the train she met a young Soviet Junior Sgt Dimitri Nagory who had
become a translator for Major Orlov, to stay away from the front lines
of war. The two were immediately attracted to each other and struck up
a friendly conversation. But before it could go anywhere, the train
crashed and the car they were in blew up, throwing them clear of the
car.

When Nagory found out the Stasi Germans were after Sharon, and aimed to
kill them both he became her savior and together they forged the wilds
of Germany's back roads in sometimes narrow escapes.

Meanwhile back at headquarters, Major Carrera, Wendy Coty, and her other
best friend Sgt. Mary Bates were trying to get to the bottom of a
mystery that could mean a Court Martial for Sharon Cates. Important
secret documents about the nuclear plans were missing and Cates was the
obvious culprit--only they didn't believe it. They knew Sharon too well
and knew she couldn't have done anything against her own country.
Someone set her up, and they thought they knew who it was, but they had
to prove it.

During this time Sharon and Dimitri were still trying to escape the
Stasi and KGB. At one point Demitri had a choice to turn Sharon in to
the Soviets or help her, he chose to help her. Sharon fell in love with
this heroic young man, and during a personal ceremony while they were
hiding out in a church, they married each other in secrecy.

Meanwhile, the hometeam was uncovering all kinds of evidence and proof,
by putting Sharon's best friends in many types of danger. The Army knew
who was guilty, but proving it meant going a step beyond protocol.

In a near miss, Sharon finally escapes Germany with Dimitri's help, but
he has to surrender to an army that now considers him a traitor to save
her. Sharon has lost Dimitri and barely made it back alive.

This is one gutsy story of heroism, patriotism, and love. It
encompasses so many wonderful features that creates a lump in one's
throat to read it. Emotions spill easily when reading this magnificent
story told by someone who has been there, done that.
Beautifully written, emotionally packed, chilling, and yes even a little
laughter in between Cardin will keep you turning those pages till you
have read this book, despite your plans to only look it over. This is
not a skim over type book, this is the real McCoy. The reader will get
involved in this story so much so that they must turn the next page to
see what will happen next. S.G. Cardin, I salute you, thank you for the
privilege of letting me read this story firsthand, and to everyone who
hasn't I say--but you must!
