] Date Posted: 19:08:40 02/11/04 Wed Sir, The Republicans have lambasted George Bush's pro-outsourcing views, saying that it has delivered American workers 'a double blow.' Alas! What an outright and injudicious mockery of facts. Outsourcing is just one of the many facets of the brave new - world of 21st century. In case there was no outsourcing, America would be nowhere in picture, in the field of Information Technology(not to mention India would be at the top), a truth endorsed by Bill Gates himself. Americans are worried about outsourcing, but what have they to say about the colossal 'brain drain,' happening to low-waged countries like India? The first quality Basmati Rice is not available in India, as it is exported. More or less, the same has happened to Indian students. The academic toppers have all but gone, seeking shelter in the laps of US and UK. As if this is not enough, American business companies, earn pots of money, as their products have enticed the Indian consumer. With this, Indians are not only working for the American industry, but are also providing market to its products, rendering it one of the world's richest economy and our own India, one of the poorest. So where is the loss to America? Ignoring its counter-productive nature, the 'American Jokesmiths' are busy, compelling the lay American to believe that 'outsourcing' is detrimental to their country's interests. Today, Internet is a hub of anti-outsourcing cartoons(see www.cartoonstock.com) , which project India as 'the pimp.' Who knows, probably even Indians would come to buy this half-baked analysis of outsourcing, had there not been a wise - man like Arun Jaitley at the helm of India's Commerce Ministry. - Hemant Krishna V., 115, 3rd floor, Govindapa Road, Bangalore 560004 [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
