TOKYO — Yukari Kuzuya, a 21-year-old model from Aichi Prefecture, was named Miss Universe Japan in Tokyo on Tuesday night. She will represent Japan at the finals in Thailand on May 31.

The 178-cm-tall Kuzuya beat 14 other finalists who were selected from a record 2,256 applicants for the annual contest which celebrates its 53rd anniversary this year.
