In reply to: Kyira 's message, "Give me a better reason than that" on 12/30/04 12:16:17am Thu

Kyira's mention of information intrigued Johan; he knew that killing was inherently wasteful, though the knight captain had been a traitor, she was actually to be hated less, a mere saboteur, and if he didn't kill her, he could correct the mistake if it turned out to be such. "Alright then, I am listening. I offer you this; A pardon in that you tell me, from the reason for the wasteful slaughter of humanity to the sabotage of my knights. You will in turn, be working for me, thereafter, you will be paid, as nothing is ever free," He said, knowing the generosity of the offer; sometimes, one got better results with a little sugar in the deal. Of course, he kept his mind's eye open, carefully monitering the world about him. Nasty things had been happening as of late, and letting his guard down could be fatal.

"You're asking a lot for a life and a little bit of gold, you know that right?" Kyira's stance shifted perceptively, loosening slightly.

Johan only shrugged, "I ask for much because I know that if I ask for little, I shall recieve little. If I ask great things, I stand a better chance of recieving great things, and I suspect that you are capable of such. You have already shown skill, I suspect it was not your decision to continue the work after the war," He said, making a stab in the dark. At worst, it was a blind complement... at best, it was a good geuss at her ability. "And I offer regular pay, and not so often regular work. I rarely find need for a spy."

He hit hard for shooting blind, Kyira's expressioned changed if only for a breif moment, irritation lacing it. "Look, staying to tear apart your city wasn't my idea. They figured if they could hit one target so hard, they might be able to hit another at least half as hard. I was all for leaving after their guys came in the back door."

Jarek watched silently from the shadows, happy inside that he had been warned by Prophet of this encounter. He had only made it there shortly after the other man was killed but he had been there all along. From within the Shadows Jarek could see the aura surrounding the man, as soon as Jarek got to close the man would know he was here. If Jarek moved from the shadows the man might know more. Jarek only needed one thing, who gave her the orders.

Johan's grim face betrayed none of the mirth or feeling of triumph in the back of his mind, "That means you are expendable to them, or they are incompetent. I can assure you, if one of my competent and valued agents told me it was time for them to leave, I would not add to their orders. Give me the information, and I assure you, I will offer you the respected and valued position you deserve. From what little you must have seen of me, you know I value skill and competence. Your present employers obviously do not." He said flatly, Overly keen senses and observational skills straining for anything. His guard hadn't dropped once... in troubled times, and when talking with one who might be dangerous, that would be a grevious error.

Her stance shifted perceptively, more guarded now. "Yeah, competence and skill." She glanced at the downed former captain. "Anyway, are we back to the part about you killing me or did you have a sweeter deal in mind?"

Jarek looked around and noticed them, watchers in the shadows. Wyrd's friends had caught up to him, though they ignored him, their attention more on the conversation before them. "Interesting. I made a mistake." His vision quickly glanced back to the female, he really needed to know more about where she really came from and as things were right now he only had this man to help him.

Johan sighed and tilted his head, the girl was smart, "Why don't we negotiate then. I know very little about you, and if you do not make a... counter-offer, I can not negotiate properly," He said, and shrugged at her glance at the captain, "He allowed himself to be manipulated, and betrayed not only me, but every oath he took. I could not have allowed him to live," He said, a touch of regret creeping into his voice.

"Funny, he thought he was keeping those oaths." Her grin was half-hearted at best. "How's this for a counter. You smile and know that yes, I was hired to weaken your guard, let saboteurs into your city and effectively leave you open to attack. You weren't the only ones. And then, you let me walk out of here confrontation free and never see me again."

Johan crossed his arms, "I've got a better one. You tell me who hired you. I never see you again. I will be discreet, if I take any action," He said, then continued, "I assure you of that."

"And you honestly beleive that they would tell me who's put out the offer? Guilds don't work that way." Kyira smirked, eyes glittering again.

Johan smiled in a decidedly patronizing fashion, "Guilds might not, but you have an idea, or know someone who does. If you don't, the information you've offered is nothing I didn't already know. And thats not good for you, now is it," He said narrowing his eyes in a fashion that made his point very clear.

Jarek studied the girl with close eyes, trying to find something within her stance or eyes that would give him the information he needed. He couldn't have been sure but he didn't think she really worked for a guild, but she was still hiding something.

"Then I don't know anything you don't. Puts us in an interesting position doesn't it?" Her eyes sparked more intensely.

Johan tsked a bit and shook his head, this was getting nowhere fast, "For a spy, you lie very poorly. You know someone who knows someone who knows someone, or you have a geuss... so lets play a game. A smart person in the know, might make a good geuss, or have a nice lead on where to start looking. So, as a smart person in the know... what is your advice," He said softly, playing the little game. He didn't want to waste time, but it had to be done.

"For an angel, you compliment very poorly." The gleam left her eyes and her stance shifted again, relaxed. "Sweeten your deal or kill me, I don't have time for this."

Jarek cleched his fist at looked on, his emotionless glance growing slightly angered. His eyes watched the man for a moment before they would glance back to the woman.
