 His words, however simple they were, hit her hardest. It was worse than any cursing or scorn, or even strike. The flute he tossed to her rolled until it stopped at her boot, and she almost shamefully scooped it up, finally raising her eyes to Kami. He was, as he had always been, as she remembered him. The moment was silence.

And then it was shattered. She watched, in the brief moment it took to be shattered, a black winged child tackle her father off the railing, and down the wall of the castle. She was at the edge in an instant, and watched them fall, then watched as the boy pushed off Kami and float there to watch him fall.

The boy's mad grin didn't last long, he was greeted by a strike to his back so hard he flew through the air away from the scene of the crime.

No one was faster than an Icewind. No one.

His attacker was no one other than Emi. No one attacked her father and got away with it.
