Dawnsfire waited until Silverfox left and then withdrew three small pouches from her belt. Sprinkling one in a moderate circle she stepped within it's confines and sprinkled a second powder over the top. When the circle was complete it flared brightly before settling down to a gentle pulsing. Kneeling on the floor she held up the bloodied arrow for a moment and then set it in front of her, sprinkling it with the powder in the third pouch. Closing her eyes she murmured the incantation to send her spirit soaring backwards through time. A deep breath, a wrenching sensation and a blur of colour and sound as she opened her eyes.
The forest goes unusually quiet, those more experienced in the encampment sense that something is wrong. There is a moment of hesitation, somewhat regretful and then the arrows begin to fall. Several volleys of arrows go out before Dawnsfire's people can get into the forest where the arrows are less effective. Younger people are taking cover wherever they can and some of them find it in places where they should have been found, but were somehow overlooked. Once inside the forest, a slaughter ensues, the elves having too much of the home field advantage as well as having had too much time to lay traps and such. Most of the fighters are entangled before they can even engage the elves. Once all of those that are plainly in sight have been killed, the elves check over the city and surrounding area to ensure no one is left. Anyone blatantly found is killed, though the elves seem sorry to do so, very apologetic. As before several who should have been found are simply overlooked, though they are almost sure they have been seen by at least one elf. Silverfox was one such, seen running away but not followed.
Another wrench and Dawnsfire returned to herself, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her throat felt raw and her eyes burned and there was a terrible sense of betrayal pulsing in her heart. The elves had seemed sorry that they were slaughtering her people, her family but that didn't explain why they had done it. She had recognized one of the elves that had acted as an ambassador to her people, one of those that was higher in rank than the rest and he'd refrained from pursuing Silverfox and had tried to kill as few of her people as he could. She would recast her circle and follow him when she checked the past again but for the moment she wept, head bowed until it nearly touched her knees, hair spilling around her in a wave. It had cut deeper than any knife that her people had been betrayed by those they had trusted the most.
