I read this on another forum and think of sharing this with you.

If fundies believed that most important thing for Jesus to do is to die, then why lived on Earth at all? Why do Jesus has to preach?

******************************************

Eddy was talking to a fundamentalist preacher the other day and he stated that Jesus’death on the cross was the most important thing that happened to Jesus and to the world. Eddy disagreed with him and told him that he thought that Jesus's life and the love he showed and expressed was what was really important.

Eddy wrote a revision of Mathew 2 to reflect the preacher's viewpoint.

Matthew 2

The Visit of the Magi

1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem
2 and asked, Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.
5 In Bethlehem in Judea, they replied, for this is what the prophet has written:
6
'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'
7
Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared.
8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
12 After they had left Jesus, they reported to Herod where Jesus was. For their efforts they received 30 pieces of silver and departed to their own country.
13 Herod gave orders to kill the baby Jesus which was done quickly. After three days Baby Jesus arose from the grave and ascended to heaven to be with His Father.

14 Up to this time, everybody went to Hell when they died, but because of the Son of God’s death, God was able to forgive everyone if they accepted the baby Jesus as their savor.

15 Originally God had planned for his Son to die on the cross for the sins of the world, but being a compassionate God, He decided that it was not necessary to wait 30 years for the sacrifice to take place. Now many could be save that would have been lost during these 30 years.

16The life that Jesus would have lived was unimportant since His mission was to die for the sins of mankind. He accomplished that goal by His death and all heaven rejoiced with Him.

(Now doesn’t that make more sense, at least from a Fundamentalist viewpoint?)
