The first time I realise the difference between Paul and Jesus is when I studied Bultmann's >>New Testament Theology<< in University. (Well, there is only one university for such a course, HKBU won't open this course).

Many things are forgotten. But I still remember the issue of the "End of the WORLD". Jesus always preaches that the END [eschatos] is approaching and we must repent... And the First Generation Christians lived in such a way that they are really expecting the End of the World to be very near. But, as they realised that the End of the World--if it would happen at all--would not happen soon, Paul changed the timing of the "END" to a much later time.

THis would affect the development of Christianity in many ways. [1] The church's relation with the State. As Christianity needed to survive in the Roman Empire, it needs to show to the Romans that Christianity is not a hostile religion. Less radicalism is mentioned about "war against the state", rather, Paul asked us to PRAY FOR THE RULERS. The Acts are depicting the "fact" that it is the Jews who are causing political instabilities, not Chrsitians. [2] The Church need to develop into a more institutionalised form. They need to develop liturgy, theology, some more-systematic kind of doctrines... Many issues, thus, needed to settle... [3] People need to get back to work, and the "new community" in which people can share food together and PRAY everyday[without working] cannot function any more. [4] Paul made Jesus's teachings MILDER, LESS RADICAL.... more readily to be accepted by the ordinary people.
