He could not properly understand the goings-on of his sister's mind. Perhaps he was still a young dracling in heart; his interior still soft and . If he did know the exactness in which his sister was thinking of their mother, he would have been astounded and even awed. How he even knew where his sister - and mother - was, was another thing entirely. Something seemed to have pulled at him only moments before, like a rope tugging at his mind....

His mother's .

He stepped from the shadows in which he had traveled to look at his mother with dry eyes. Bawling wasn't an option now, maybe it would never be again, only action. And yet, his mother was lying there, just lying there....

Tarquin tore his gaze from the golden beauty to the darker beauty, and more familiar one, of Halette. Something in her eyes, though, made him pause. What could she be thinking, he wondered as he forced himself to move towards her again.

"Halette," he said softly, tenderly breaking into her thoughts.
