Since I'm the only one of us still here in Newburgh I guess I can put in my 2 cents! I actually think it's harder for you people who don't live here anymore to accept the terrible changes. Since I have seen the gradual decline of my city, it doesn't surprise me as much. I see that the parents of today are not doing the jobs parents are supposed to be doing. They are too busy keeping up with the Joneses' to see what their kids are up to. Of course there are those parents who are working 2 and 3 jobs trying to feed their families. Then there are the parents who just don't give a damn and spend all their time being self indulgent. (drinking, doping, and all the rest)! All these things aside, I'm sure I'll surprise all of you by saying I would not want to live anyplace else!! I still love it here. I can still 'see', in my mind, how wonderful it was growing up here. Trust me, there are many beautiful homes, churches, and wonderful, caring people here who have been my friends for many years. Mt. Beacon and the Hudson River are as beautiful as they ever were! Sure, I hate seeing the squalor, too, but if I keep my own place clean and neat that's about all I can physically do!
So, please, when you come here for a visit, try not to see only the bad stuff, try looking at it through the eyes of a child......the child you once were.
