The nature of surrender is consciousness. I think that you are confusing it with the near enemy, delusion. I was thinking about this and how we are all so afraid to be gullible, to be scammed or to lose. Yes, there is a risk, there most certainly is, the worst thing that you can lose though is what, money? face? But there is a guaranteed loss in the other direction, in not opening, in not trying it out whatever it is.
You know, we go through it with the Center. It is terrifying and many times looks like it may not make it. And if we don't, a thousand people will say I told you so. And I was thinking, wow, I have gotten what I ultimately wanted from the experience...an awakening, a connection, a learning experience. Success may not look how we expect it to look. But the purpose of my life is experience; living all of it, trying all of it.
Also, external circumstances do not determine whether someone wins or loses. It is a matter of "Can you get into agreement with THIS"? whatever it is. That, anyway is what my life is asking of me. Not can I have a wildly successful exterior, or all of the specific circumstances that I want. I've tried that. It's empty. A rich life for me includes a great deal of loss because it is a constant venturing into what I do not know.
In terms of someone supressing something and then getting angry and running away; you cannot concurrently supress and surrender. Surrender is a conscious, engaged verb. And the gift of it is not that you get a result but that you got to have the experience of surrendering.

Oh..and it may be that all of this is not for you. You may have an entirely different route to where you are going. That's okay too.
