Subject: 2:45 a.m. hospital again... things could get dire for me... very long, sorry

Christmas 06’ till January, I was in the hospital and rehab. I lost 15 lbs. because of my rare disease not fitting into their dietary box. An emergency nurse contaminated my then four year old med port and lost it. I get a new mini med port in my upper right arm, which is the last usable large vein in my upper torso. The next place for a med port is in the groin area. That pictures just sucks so. My new port was placed two Mondays ago. It was a tough job. At one point my heart started racing. At first, I tried self-denial… like this just like a high from speed (street drug)… then quickly I said here I come God ready or not and I meant it. I could hardly speak. I managed… “Heart” barely. They asked what… “fast”, way fast. When I finally or it finally calmed down. The radiologist doc said it must have been my perception because the blood pressure did not go up much. So, I got a new port. I was so happy. My veins would not have lasted long getting stuck three times a week and two to three tries each time.

Several days ago, I go into my doc’s office with some symptoms. He orders blood work to check for viruses, bacteria, electrolyte imbalance, and sends me for a Ultra Sound to check for blood clots in the port area. He tells me if it is a clot that he will only up my Coumadin (blocks body’s natural clot to block blood lose due to cuts, etc.) Well, they find a clot. Beaumont’s newer protocol is inpatient treatment with I.V. heparin (blood thinner) and increased Coumadin intake. I also got antibiotic injections. I finally get to go home, but it was to cost me $145 to do so. Instead of heparin, I get a safer drug similar to heparin. They are injection needls and I poke myself in my belly. Medicare drug program pays $475 and I pay the $145 for seven days treatment. While in the hospital, they cover the I.V. needle insertion into the port, with a tagaderm (sp?) patch. That is kinda like film wrap with tape on the edges for security and keep it clean. The little insertion cut is seeping pus and the cut is red around the edge. I inquire asking won’t the infection get worse becaus the covering won't let the wound breath. The patient is never right of course. The pus works the cover loose and the access needle comes out. I get home, get to visit with Pain & Pest after they were left unattended for three days. I get to sleep in my super comfortable bed. I notice the port area getting worse. The home care nurse does her one hour thing, and calls my doc for an appoint for later today. I go out to Farmer Jacks, get back, change into my house clothes, and notice the area has doubled in redness area, in swelling, in heat. I go into Urgent Care at my doc’s office, drive back home gather stuff, eat a little meal, and head back to E.R. I am getting Dalada (sp?) very strong pain killer injection into my I.V. line. Get sent up to the temp floor rooms until I get a permanent room. Took forever to get another pain shot and a cup of ice water. Now it is 3:45 a.m. I am going to try to sleep. Thank God for pain killers. With all my other chronic pain and now swelled hot pressured port site area… just on fire…

I most likely have sepsis this time again… infection, MRSA, travels through the blood to all parts of body…big risk of death. In addition, if I end up with no usable veins to get I.V. hydration infusion, I slowly dehydrate to death as different port organs die.

So sorry this is so long. I needed to write this… I am not sure anymore... death never scared me... only life does. I wrote in Yahoo’s ‘Answers’ web site… Christian zealot told me that after living a very selfish life that did me much good, things are different for me now and am in self-pity. She sent me a Bible verse about one of the Apostle’s complaining, and who was told that God is giving him everything he needs do deal with his complaint and to quit complaining. I did get some super replies too. I sent her a verse that went something like, “Why worry about a splinter in your neighbor's eye when you have a log in your own eye… judging. There really is not much judging in here is there. Maybe we should write are own Bible, hun?

Hugs & Luv,
RICHARD
