Subject: I got what I wanted.........in a way

I got a call from the recipients rights advisor on Friday. The report was delayed because this lady had to send the report to her boss at the State of Michigan's recipients rights to sign off. Her findings were that my rights are violated, and the hospital was incapable of keeping me safe in that environment. Minimal sanctions........

Well, the state stepped in and disagreed with her findings and came up with their own report. It is now listed as
a Class 1 neglect. This is stiffest finding available. It means that a patient was injured and care was neglected. This attacks their license, and with JCAHO stepping in, (which was part of the findings, so I don't have to be labeled an instigator for calling JCAHO myself). That ward is in an uproar right now.......I can only imagine what is going on there now. The hospital attorney called me, and told me to contact my attorney to discuss a settlement. It's funny.....my attorney hasn't done much because he was waiting for that report to come out. Now that the findings are out......he is going to step in. He was holding back on all this, but he did give me advice all through this process. So now my decision is......do I take the settlement and never go back there and lose my doctor? Or be satisfied that my case was dealt with and dealt harshly, and they won't ever forget my name. I succeeded in achieving what I set out to do. To get rid of the red buttons, to seperate the men from women at bedtime, to have a formal apology from PHH, and to acknowledge and take responsibility for what happened to me on that floor.

I have til Jan 2 to make my decision....attorneys are in their seperate corners ready to go at it. For me, yesterdays call made my Christmas.
