Sorry to hear Richard. I have an autoimmune disorder too, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. My body make antibodies to my own thyroid gland. The treatment is replacement thyroid hormone and it honestly causes me no trouble at all. I am lucky I know and there are a lot of more serious autoimmune disorders -- rheumatoid arthritis being one (I have osteoarthritis, which is different).
