Subject: How bad do you have to be to be turned away by a therapist?

I had another interview with a therapist in town today. He was a Ph.d, and was recommended to me by my family doctor. We talked for a few minutes about my history and such, and what I went through with my past therapist. He told me that "I didn't need to continue in therapy anymore". I sat there with my mouth open.....he said that 10 years is long enough.

Then we proceeded with my history....my instability, my hospitalizations, and the ECT. He looked me square in the eye and said "I wouldn't know what to do with you in a crisis....you are too high maintenence for my practice".
WHAT?????????? A PhD??????? Can't handle bipolar disorder?

At least he was honest with me. He told me he picks and chooses his clients who suffer from mild depression. I would "stress him out" if I got into a crisis. I guess he only likes to take the money from bored housewives. I couldn't believe it. The only good thing that came out of the meeting was he didn't charge me for it, since he couldn't "help me".

Therapists are a fucking joke......I am so disheartened by this whole thing.....the suicidal thoughts are so strong right now.....

Love, Mikki
