Subject: What do you mean by "small" groups?

Are you looking for alternatives to An Com schools? Small An Com schools? A little more detail would help. In the US, you have An Comisiun schools, An Comhdhail schools, AAIDT schools, CRN schools and I think CRDM as well. Elsewhere, you have other choices.

I mean smaller organisations. We are a small school looking for an option as the organisation we are part of just now is too big and we feel swamped by the glitter and the cost and the pressure. We want to have fun but feel pressured as we dont do all the things that are needed to win on even an irregular basis and it is not fun telling the kids why they are not winning. We love doing feises but dont want to go down the road of big expenses (we dont have the money)which seems to be required to get even moderate success. We want to know what standard the other organisations are and where exactly they are located. We are not in North America but I wont go further down that road just now as I dont want everyone knowing just yet what we are going to do ( I think)

I understand completely. I left the An Com world myself, for AAIDT less than a year ago, and most still don't know I've left. I'm in the US, so I'm guessing a bit here. In terms of Ireland and the UK, CRN and CRDM have a pretty good structure, it seems (CRN more so, but that's because they're older). Outside of there, the largest in mainland Europe is WIDA. They are getting bigger steadily, and have regular competitions. We in AAIDT have one school outside of the US (in NZ).

With all of the 35 or so other organizations in the world, most have true open feiseanna (CRN is not, and I wouldn't recommend dancing in their feiseanna unless you have joined up, and CRDM is starting to close theirs down a bit). "Open platform" means that you can compete whether or not you are associated with that organization. Just find out how they classify their dancers, and you're good to go.

Some of the worldwide organizations are listed in Wikipedia, I'm sure, and I know that on a website called www.diochra.com there's a lot of world ID info. I wish that I knew more about the orgs to help you. I would try the internet for searches, and see what you can find. If you go to www.Diddlyi.com, there are ID dancers from all over the world who are posting there, too, and they can help (yes, I have a page there).

There is hope, and there are still competitive options without the cost or extremes. Hang in there (as we say in the states).
