Look at it the other way what disadvantage does it give, the nearside touchie only used to monitor the 5 metre area on the scrums, and to be honest referees used to tell tjs to put flags down anyway.
What is "the correct position" for a touchie he'd have have usually been racing up if the balls coming his side to montitor the pass if the referee takes a bump in the scrum break up. It gives the referee the advantage to get a quick mark on the 10 metres in the last attacking / defending twenty metres of the pitch (which is the only place we use it except when the ball goes blind) where you are more likely to have players shooting out of the line or markers who arent square.
The touchjudge isnt covering for the referee its all about teamwork and helping each other
