Date Posted: 18:41:02 09/24/04 Fri About your Vikings prototype (white shell, purple horns). I watched the 1961 pre-season games, they did not wear anything other than the origonal purple shell, white horns. I have game photos, pre-pre-season photos and adverts that would support this. As for 1973......I watched every game, saw every pre-season article and never heard of even a rumor of this supposed helmet. There was a newspaper article from roughly that time suggesting the Vikings might want to wear the "Viking head" rather than the horns.....but it was being suggested from outside the organization and never came to anything. I have been employed at the local newspaper since 1968, and during the 1968-1975 era one of my tasks was to look at every single page of each edition, checking for various advertising glitches or problems.
