That is a festival banner and most are that size. They are designed so you can read the name of the festival from far away since the queen is there to promote her festival. I happen to think the banners are nice, but each to their own. And as far as your comment about what they pick as their queen, Festival pageants are not about the external beauty but the willingness to promote a festival. the banner is NOT made of glitter paint...those festival banners are made out of RHINESTONES and are usually more expensive than the plain banners other wear. I should know, I have one. Her job is to promote the Volunteer Fire Dept. in Chackbay, LA and their festival fundraiser (the LA Gumbo Festival). Many of the LA festival queens are not what YOU would consider MUO material (there are several who are, though). BUT, they are not competing for Miss LA USA, they competed to represent an industry, town, non-profit organization, etc. They travel, make appearances, and are involved in their & their festival's communities.
