        It actually was not that competitive at the time. Marissa easily won this competition. This was before Sara Brooks really got started and before she knew what to expect in the pageant world. And as much as I like Jamie Roddy, she did not have her best night that night. Brittany Dubois is an awesome girl, but never really developed into a "pageant girl"... Which is a good thing because she is such a good person. I would never have wanted her to change to please the system.         First off, the comment above was refering to his above post of last years pageant. second, we should all be on here to constructively discuss not bash anyone, and finally, we all need to take things with a grain of salt. It seems that the only thing happening is that vultures are looking for scrap pieces of meat to complain over. Who cares if you agree or disagree with what russia says. We ALL have our favorites and we ALL are guilty of strongly standing by OUR FAVORITES over some of the other contestants. We all act like we don't have Rose colored glasses on and the truth is if you think you don't then your lying to yourself. It's really hard to be 100 percent honest when we critisize someone who we are friends or family. We may know the truth but it's still hard. How about instead of grasping for straws we look for more intellectual topics. - All of this Russia-bashing is clearly an attempt by Nicky Lingo and her sidekick Adam to defame Russia for being admired by many. From what I hear, Head to Toe will be taking a hit next year because of their off-the-wall antics and practices of derailing certain indivuduals success.         Actually, most directors of parish sugar titles will tell you that whichever parish's turn it is to win that year will win...very little judging.         I would like to slightly adjust my final picks going into the finals. I'm sticking to my gut feeling that Corinn Grillot will be the next Miss Louisiana USA. Top 5 predictions: Winner - Corinn, 1st RU- Lewis, 2nd RU- Manalla (I give her credit on lots of hard work paying off!), 3rd RU - Minchew, 4th RU- Merrill Bankston (she looks great this year!). My top 10 predictions - Haley Ridgel, Kari Miller, Calee Guidry, Sara Brooks (a couple mess ups tonight, but would like to see her again), and Jennifer Soileau. TOP 10 predictions - Lindsay Tarpley, Morgan Murray, Lauren Whittle, Cadi Pedigo, and Hannah Moore. I'd give swimsuit award to Corinn.         Everyone is welcome on the Festival board, but remember it is a festival board and as the Board Mod, I like to keep it focused on Festivals. I don't mind if there is a little cross over since the girls cross over, but please be respectful of the Festival folks who use it to communicate about their events. BTW, if you have never done a festival pageant and are between the ages of 17-23 you might want to try one in your home town. Many of the girls who do well in the USA system do well in the Festival system. We have had a lot of festival cross overs who have won Miss LA in the last few years as well: Heather Hayden, AK and Melissa McConnel. Marrissa C is a former festival girl, Amanda S, Lindsey Cooper, Lindsey T, Cadi P and others are also eitehr current festival queens or past queens. I think it is great for those ibt years when you are too old to do Teen but not ready for Miss. Great experience and a wonderful chance to see what Louisiana has to offer. Hell ladies, I don't visit the boards often, I will try to answer your concerns for the Miss New Orleans Pageant.
It pays full entry for Miss La USA Pageant for both Teen & Miss.
In the past TWO years, I made the Miss La State & Miss Jefferson Parish prelims to la USA.

The Miss La State 2007 paid full entries for Teen & Miss.
Miss. Jefferson Parish 2008 paid half the entry for Teen & Miss.

These two pageants will be prelim to the Miss New Orleans 2009 and will pay full entry to New orleans.

The Miss. New orleans pageant will pay full entries to la USA.

In the past TWO years, I had on my forms, that will pay full entry if having 5 or more contestants. There are plenty of costs that goes into directing pageants that contestants are not aware of. I don't believe in promising things that are not realistic in today's economy. If I have it on the form, I will deliver it!

As a former contestant, hair stylist & make-up artist to the Miss New Orleans for the past 16 years. I am honored to continue the success of the pageant along with former directors Debbie Greene and Mary West.

I always let my judges decide on the winners. Their job is very difficult when there are so many talented & beautiful contestants that compete for this title.
The hardest part about directing, is watching the delegates compete as they put their hearts and everything they have into the art of competition and don't take home the title. I wish every delegate could win, unfortunatley only one lady can take home the crown in each division.
Fairness and Honesty is what I base my pageants on!
I promise as director to allow every contestant the chance to win, when having the total package.

        In all honesty, it must be very difficult to obtain judges. If judges are knowledgeable and well-versed in the USA system, then they are probably aware of or have a slight connection to at least one if not all of the contestants. On the other hand, if they are completely unaware of the contestants, and thus assumed to be completely impartial, they are ridiculed for having little to no knowledge of the system. I'm not saying that the proposed panel is perfect, but honestly, it seems like a no win situation for any director UNLESS they spend the money to bring in out of state judges. With a handful of contestants paying approx. $200 to enter, transportation of out-of-state judges doesn't seem like a realistic expense to undertake. Which leads to a question: as a contestant, would you pay $400-$500 entry fees for prelims to allow for the director to pay transportation (flight/mileage) and multi-night accommodations for out-of-state judges? Subject: Something is rotten on the judges panel in the state of South Carolina. Their is only one panel of judges and 3 of them are Nascar folks. Stacy Compton and his wife are judges, they are listed on Standout Productions website as clients. It amazes me that someone like Paula Miles (whom I admire and respect) would risk her well earned credibility by letting Chelsea Cooley basically take over her pageants. Chelsea needs to remember that Paula is the Director and Paula needs to remember that Chelsea's income is directly tied to the outcome of these pageants. Friends of the pageant coach (i.e Chelsea) should NEVER be allowed to judge. If this is the case, a lot of Moms and Dads have wasted a lot of money in this time of extreme economic crisis and if that is the case....shame on Chelsea for trying to stack the panel and shame on Paula for letting her. The Comptons are listed on Cooleys website as her clients, he and his wife and Bobby hamiltons widow are judges, there is only one panel that also includes Cal Tindal, Jonathan Black and some TV person. There arent 2 panel like the past. Now dont you think Miss Cooley will be telling the Comptons who needs to be the winners. Come on people! This is wrong. Regardless of whether Chelsea is the only Miss USA in attendance (which I will still never understand her winning), once she decides to become a Pageant Coach and make her living off of these girls, that over rides her status as a former Miss USA (at these events).         Opinions about someone's appearance is one thing, but how you phrase that opinion is another. For example "long in the tooth" may be better stated as "she looks a little older than the other miss contestants" and "the Teen NC is ugly" could be rephrased as "the NC Teen USA wasn't the most facially beautiful contestant in the pageant" or even "I personally don't find her very attractive." It has nothing to do with being PC, but with knowing how to handle people with YOUR opinion. Not to mention that sometimes, it is indeed okay to keep one's opinion to oneself.   - I think the biggest problem is that LM has not always been a very nice girl. In fact she has been down right nasty to many, many young ladies that she saw as competition. I honestly don't think there is a "jealousy" issue here. I think that the young women that have been on the raw end of LM wrath are paying her back. Remember the old saying, "you reap what you sow". If you look at every message board LOTS of people are saying the same thing. She LOOKS OLD. Melissa McConnell looked old and see where it got her. She was beautiful but looked older than the other contestants. Telling LM not to pay attention to this board is like telling her to stop wearing makeup. She is on here all the time as is the rest of her family. She loves it. What I can't wait to see is which one of Paula's other girls will be roomed with LM at USA. Boy, that should be interesting. She clapped for them, spoke with them and was very honest and supportive about their preformance. NL had nothing to do with the drama around Evans and surely had nothing to do with anything about Liz or Logan. NL can be hard to get along with, she is very blunt and honest in her opinion. Of the girls who bought dresses from her this year, every single one looked great. And, yes, she did fly to OK with LM b/c LM ordered a gown pretty late and NL wanted to make sure that it came in. If you worked with NL you cannot say that she put you in something that did not look great on you.
