Re the hypnotic regression.

Some hypnotists also try 'progression' - same as regression but making people talk about their future years and even lives. I have read one such book (experiments are of the late eighties) a decade ago and nothing that was stated there for the near future can have come true. These experiments obviously revealed psychological projections of various types of people into the future, e.g. people interested in spirituality saw themselves living in spiritual communities in 2100, being immortal spirit-beings in 2300 etc., whereas country folks claimed to live in a rehash of Western towns around the same period (interestingly motorbikes were mentioned, but not cellphones or Internet), while city people saw an over-technical, sterile society while all nature had turned into desert, and people would be working on space ships and other planets, even collaborating with intimidating aliens; generally people of that group felt unwell, overworked and suffered from anxiety. A small fourth group saw themselves living among the smouldering ruins of New York City.

Only, these were four completely different models of society, but they were seen to exist at the same time at the same place, each only seeing 'his' one. Except the spiritual people all those scenarios have an American tinge to them (the progressions were done in the US). By far the largest group were those who saw the city life, a minority dreamt about the Western towns, and a small minority about spiritual life. The folks on ruins were luckily only a handful.

In a number of cases people saw themselves born in a body of the other sex, but I do not recall the rate. Maybe one in two cases.

How can I go sure then that memories of *past* lives, including all the details, when revealed under hypnosis are really authentic?

I believe there are some cases where historical research indicates that at least part of the memorized lives really took place. But even then: how to determine that it was really one's own previous incarnation, or just some thought patterns that may be floating about in the ether and were 'caught' during the hypnosis?

There are many possible explanations, I have mentioned three: psychological projection, telepathic transmission, and actual remembrance of earlier lives. As long as you don't know whether such regressions bring about something genuine - and if so: which ones - it is difficult to speak about the relation between sexual orientation and previous births.

On the few occasions where yogis or mystics comment on this issue they seem to agree that it is common to stick to the same sex with only few exceptions. Whereas mediums, channels and hypnotized people tell all kinds of things.
