Subject: Homosexuality and Reincarnation

Some SRF students told me that Paramahansa Yogananda said that a person spends something like 14 incarnations in the same sex before switching to the opposite sex. That is to say, you are male for 14 incarnations and then you switch and have 14 female incarnations and vice versa. Some people in SRF told me this explains homosexuality. They said you are homosexual the first few times you are in a body of the opposite sex after having spent 14 incarnations in one sex. This is because it takes the mind (causal body) time to adjust to new conditions and build new samskaras. It made sense to me.

But then I read some books about hypnotic regression by some psychiatrists. These are very scientific minded medical doctors, not new age psychics. They conducted thousands of hypnotic regressions into past lives on their patients. Reading these stories you see that the patients who were regressed to previous lives constantly switched back and forth between sexes. In one life they were male, for instance, and in the next one right after that they were female, followed by another male incarnation, etc. And in all these incarnations they were heterosexuals. They married persons of the opposite sex, had children, and manifested no signs of homosexuality or latent inclinations or desires. This seems to contradict what the SRF students told me P. Yogananda said.

Then you have transsexuality, transvestism, intersexuality (hermaphrodites) and it all becomes even more complicated.

What do you think causes these conditions? The one common thing, whether you're gay, a crossdresser, born intersexed (which suffer the most, especially if they had early corrective surgery and don't feel comfortable in the sex their surgeon and parents chose for them) seems to be that you suffer a lot from social persecution and personal pain and anguish for being different. Is the cause karmic???
