...it is not necessary to go through inner planes to realize the truth.

You are in a way confirmed by Swami Ramalinga. He recognizes 17 levels or states and planes of experience. The first three are the normal waking, dreaming and sleeping states. The fourth and fifth are those of inner spiritual experience, those of heart and mind. The sixth is the first one where self-realization is possible. He writes:

"O Supreme Divine of Oneness and unity who is continuously held in experience at the mid head [i.e. at ajna, the mid of the eyebrows] and at the top of the head, both of which fall in the sixth level of experience."

-- Swami Ramalinga

"One can realise the Self, the Brahman or the Ishwara without going into the overhead regions, the dynamic spiritual planes or stationing oneself permanently above the body [...]. If it is done through Sahasrara, well, the Sahasrara extends [downwards] to the spiritualised mind [plane between Ajna and Sahasrar] and can be felt in the top of the head, so any ascent above is not indispensable."

-- Sri Aurobindo
