Personally I think that to practice the yogic techniques is only half part of the path, and the other half is to have the right attitude, changing your ego and developing love and service to others and devotion to the Divine, and "learn to behave". Yogananda had the Kriya techniques but he looked hard for a Guru, who disciplined him and said to him "learn to behave".

Techniques are not a magic wand that will make you divine. Not at all for me. They can be a source of inspiration to, after, make changes in your life.

Everybody has different things to learn here, that is where a person grows. Maybe one person has spent several lives in the solitude of a cave practicing Kriya yoga, and now he has to learn to see the Divine in others and serve others. This person won't evolve in this life by practicing kriya yoga hours and hours.

Sadhana means for me a time to connect with your Higher Self (no matter the techniques used), to later bring this connection to your everyday life. And everyday life is sadhana also.
