 She sat alone, last in a vast plane of darkness, surrounded by images of the past, and the present. But the future she couldn't see. That was being blocked by....her.

The woman walked in and out of the images, as if just strolling umong them in reminisence. Glittering fully black wings with hair to match, and the stark contrast of near neon yellow for eyes.

"Why do you insist on fighting me Ariel. Just give in. You can't win."

Nystka peered out from behind on of the massive images, the picture jumbled and misplaced like something Picaso would create.

Ariel glared, her hands firm to her head. Voices only she could hear. It was Northern Glaciar all over again.

"I won't give in to you again. I had enough the last time."

"But why not? You gave in so easily the last time. So much grief. No wonder you embraced me so willingly, lost in the sorrow of losing your real daughter. What irony that I chose her name as my own."

Ariel shut her eyes and shook her head.

"But this isn't the last time. I've accepted that, a long time ago. I'll not be held under your weight again."

"Then how long can you fight me then? At this rate you'll exhaust yourself, and you'll be just easy pickings. That wonderful snake awakened me, I must thank it for that. But how can I in this state, nothing more than a spectre. Give in, Ariel. You can't fight me forever. You'll give in to me eventually. Make it easy on yourself and just let go."

Ariel shook her head and fanned her wings over her body. Even in her mind, this was the best defense she had.

"I won't give in...I can't. I promised..."

Who'll know?

'Zenra will.'

What's she going to do?

'I won't betray her again.'

'I can't.'

Do it.

'No...'

DO IT!

'NO!'

Ariel rocked back and forth with her head in her hands and her wings full spread over her body, umong a sea of blue grass.

Alone.
