Subject: C'mon guys

I unfortunately stumbled across this message board and I can't help but to feel sorry for you guys, really. The fact that any one would travel over three hours to watch this sub-par college team with a record of 3-8 is sad. I am a recent alumni of the University. In my time there, about 95% of the student body could care less about the team because they sucked. However, there were still things to be excited about for a sportsfan like myself. There was a lot of athletic potential with the likes of big guys like Gai, Feleccia, and Thompson, and even other kids who could play like Span and Clarke. What did O'Toole do with that talent, absolutely nothing. Getting smacked up by a clearly undertalented Rider in last years MACC semifinal is a clear indication that as long as "TOT" is coach, there will never be an NCAA tournement birth. The window has closed. I hate to break it to you and shatter your high hopes, but it flat out isn't going to happen. Now you can pull the wool over your own eyes and continue to look at the glass as half full with stats like 21-9 on the road, but by doing so you will remain in denial, and in turn give yourself motivation to follow this second rate team to the neather regions of the northeast. There is no such thing as the "RED SEA", no one cares my man. So do yourself a favor and take in a big wednesday matchup like Michigan State vs. Indiana. I can assure you that it will be far more entertaing than pulling your hair out watching the stags blow it in the wanning minutes of a game to a team that they should slaughter. Trust me, I know from experiance. Take it easy sportsfans.

experience? so do we. We have been bleeding Cardinal Red and White since you were born. Your attitude is why, even when we did have back-to-back 19 win seasons, the student section was completely empty. What? Was there a Beirut tournament in Townhouse 115?! We debate here because we care about the University and are passionate about the athletics at the Univ, basketball or otherwise. Unlike you, we'll be here rooting for this school in good times and in bad. Go back to playing your XBOX.

Looks like JoeStags cleaned up the postings from R U Serious. Thank you! Some of the comments went way to far. However, I have to disagree with the complete dismissal of R U Serious's comments. Assuming R U Serious is legit, I think it is important for all of us to hear the perception of the state of basketball team from a representative of the recent student body. He doesn't represent all current students, but, his opinions do reflect the perception amongst some. Like it or not, all opinions should be heard here, that is within reason and decency!!!

And we wonder why there is no student following! Have the students who go to this school become so high and mighty that they would rather follow the big conference schools than their own basketball team? This is a sad commentary, and unfortunately one that I think is pervasive within the student body.

I actually feel sorry for you that you never experienced anything like the red sea. It was an event - win or lose -to be part of the games. Unfortunately, the reason that it no longer exists is the attitude you so aptly exhibit in your post. It's that same attitude that ended up getting rid of the football team as well. You would have been better off going to UCONN.

Sad to hear that the "recent alumnus" has so little interest in Fairfield b-ball. He truly missed out on a great experience as a lot of us have had at AH and even some exciting games(both men and women) at AHY. Granted the "Home team" atmosphere is not the same at AHY but for us alumni fans it is all about the Stags.

One of the priorities of any athletic/marketing plan has to be a way of reconnecting with the current student body so as not to have such attitudes as the "recent alumnus". The current students will be alumni one day and the University needs to stay connected to them somehow.

Despite the angry-dog attitude of R U, I think this attitude is very difficult to shed at the mid-major level. When I was in Manhattan, I didn't go to many basketball games, even though my roommate was on the team. I was more interested in my own sport, and what my friends were doing. Unless hoops becomes "the thing to do" like football at a BCS school, you'll find this apathy. I myself became more interested in the basketball team as an alum.

Fairfield has some great advantages. I like AHY. Great campus, great academics. A lot to attract the right types of players. When Fairfield's back on top, it'll be more fun for you guys, but the regular posters here know as well as I do that at our level, you live for the chance to make an occasional big splash. That chance to win a first round NCAA game, or a couple of NIT games, is what makes this FUN.

Of course, I think R U needs to learn that the world doesn't revolve around his little corner of the world. There is something worthwhile about a school that plays Division I, but strikes a balance with other aspects of college. That's the world of the MAAC.
