Oprah also did a whole segment on how to pop the latch from the inside. Even if your hands are tied in front of you, you can do it. In old cars, the latches worked pretty much the way the safety latch works on the hood. It's even easier in many late model cars, because it's a safety feature now.

I never stole a car, or anything else, for that matter. I did my fair share of other questionable things - including vandalizing a couple of cars that were abandoned near my house.
