I've seen a lot of Edward's shows (it used to come on after GL here) & have come to the conclusion that he's sort of an old-fashioned con artist, but one who actually BELIEVES what he's doing. You can see he throws a lot of generalizations out there, then tosses out other stuff to see what sticks, then takes a tiny bit of info and runs with it. It's a combination of cold and hot-reading (old psychic techniques).
I read an article not too long ago from someone who used to work with JE behind the scenes. It seems a LOT of editing is done to the sequences that finally air, and a lot of information is gathered from the audience upon their entrance. Most of the tapings are boring, he said, and when he gets a "hit", he questions relentlessly until getting the right kind of responses. A lot of that is edited, for instance, he may have gone through half the alphabet before hitting the right initial of someone's name. ("M", perhaps? LOL!). Dang, I WISH you'd have been able to get in - then maybe we'd have eyewitness accounts from YOU, too!
I know some of it is eerie and seems accurate, but too often, his messages from beyond are generic and what anyone would say... "I love you".
John Edward, who was a consultant on Reva's storyline, taped a sequence of "Crossing Over" in the GL studios. Here's an article from TV Guide:
SUDSING OVER:
Psychic medium and soap fan John Edward is guided to the Light
He sees nothing odd about relaying messages from the dead on Crossing Over. So what makes John Edward flip out? Taping his hit show on the set of Guiding Light. Last month the psychic medium conducted readings for this syndicated series at the GL studio, with episodes to air November 17-21. He calls the experience "freaking weird." Here's why: As a teen in the 80's Edward was a care-giver for his cancer stricken mom and turned to GL every day for an hour of emotional respite. He's been hooked ever since
"Those actors are like my family in an alternate reality," he says. "To do a reading with them was surreal." But the GL session wasn't as star-studded as expected. Several actors did hear from their dearly departed -- including Marj Dusay (Alex), Frank Dicopoulos (Frank), and Beth Ehlers (Harley), but more messages came through for the GL crew.
Cracks Ehlers, "Clearly the dead aren't impressed with stardom."
