Once again the OLTL Fan Luncheon was held at The Marriott Marquis. We were served a typical meal of chicken, vegetables and rice. However, nothing was typical about the luncheon itself. I rode up on the elevator with Peter Bartlett, Nigel. He was very friendly and when he heard a couple raving about the play, Beauty and the Beast, Peter said, "I was in Beauty and the Beast. When we got off on the seventh floor, Peter was greeted, and taken to wait with the rest of the actors.
The luncheon began as always with a the raffling off of door prizes. These prizes consisted of various items that were used by or in some way related to the One Life to Live characters. We were served lunch during this time. There were several fans who delighted in their gifts, but none was more enthusiastic as Dorian Rocks. She was sitting next to me saying a mantra when they called her lucky number, and she stormed toward the dais to claim her prize. DR won the negligee that Dorian wore when she had sex by proxy with Mitch.
After the door prizes were given out, the actors came out, one by one as Kristen Aldersen read their names off. there was a question and answer session. Shanelle Workman worked the room and drew questions directed to certain cast members. These questions were generated by someone behind the scenes, therefore we could not ask the actors what we wanted to ask them. I guess they thought we'd embarrass the actors. (Nothing is left to chance anymore.) Anyway, the questions were boring and cheesy, and the actor’s answers were boring and cheesy as well.
It was during this time that James DePaiva made his announcement, not a surprise to many netsters, but many of the fans were shocked when he said that he had been fired.
James handled the news with style and grace. He then presented his fan club president with a vest that he had worn in his audition tape with Andrea Evans. This was all very emotional, and it put a pall over the festivities momentarily, but the actors and actresses brought the levity back because these people are professionals.
Awards went to Kassie DePaiva as Best Actress, Catherine Hickland, Best Supporting Actress, Best Actor Kamar De Los Reyes, Scene Stealer Kristine Aldersen, Best Couple, Chris and Nat, Best Villain, Roscoe Born, Best Storyline, Mitch's return
After this, the actors went to different areas in the ballroom and lines were formed. The newbies didn’t stay long, and it’s my hope that many of them won’t stay long on the show.
I did very much enjoy meeting most of the actors. Kassie is the best. This woman is vert warm and very genuine. James is gorgeous. The camera does this man no justice. Patrcia Elliot and Peter Bartlett were with the DePaivas, and I enjoyed talking with them. They are very warm and very enthusiastic. Catherine Hickland was in line with Jessica Morris and Brian Hall. My instincts told me if I waited long enough, I could get her by herself. I knew their co-stars could not withstand the rigors of meeting fans, and carrying on a conversation. I love this woman! Forget that she told me that she loved the colors that I had chosen for my make up -:) She is just a wonderful, warm enthusiastic person. I talked with Ilene, who is a riot. John-Paul Lavoisier was there and he had both of his parents with him. This is one beautiful young man! Kathy Brier was sweet, BUT Nathaniel is a knock out! Beautiful eyes, gorgeous smile, and he spent time talking to everyone. A lot of cracks have been made about Dan Gautier, but he is very handsome, and the man is a lot of fun, like his character, he is a big flirt. He was warned about Blainca, and he came looking for her after the event was over; he gave her a hug.
Trevor St. John had a very long line for a newbie. He was humbled by the fans, thanked every one, personalized his convesation, and he is so, so lovely to look at. Kristen Aldersen is the ultimate professional, she has staying power, talked to the fans and signed autographs the whole time. Eddie played with Bob Woods son, Tanner. And, last but certainly no least, I met a legend, Robin Strasser! She is absolutely awesome, funny, and grateful to all who have supported her throughout the years, and especially those who fought to get her back on the show.
