I think I have watched too many soaps. I had no expectations of The Banger Sisters, BUT I was looking forward to seeing the movie on cable. I was surprised when the movie turned out to be a little more than just a girl buddy movie, but I was very disappointed when the movie seemed to hint, strongly, that (spoiler warning and scroll)
That Suzette was Hannah's biological mother. Examples - we see Suzette do a mini cleansing breath a la LaMaze very early in the movie. We also see her run straight to Vinnie when the shit hits the fan, only to run just as fast back to the hotel when she sees blonde Hannah leaving for the prom. Suzette is thoroughly maternal with Hannah on prom night, and it doesn't hurt the picture that they've got the same hair and features. Suzette and Vinnie discuss how long it's been since they've seen each other, and Vinnie says sixteen years, and Suzette says twenty. Split the difference, and you have Hannah's age. Then you have Suzette telling Hannah (who's just asked what business Suzette has interfering with her family) you and I go way back, little girl. And, you have Vinnie "coaching" Suzette through another cleansing breath.
So, why is that story arc never closed? Especially given the really stupid valedictorian speech about being true to yourself, which would be ironic coming from a child who doesn't know she's adopted? Why not go ahead and make the point that Suzette really was being true to herself by admitting she wasn't Mom material and that Vinnie, OTOH, was a natural? It bothers me when something is almost good.
So, I go to the internet to find some answers. No mention in any review or promo piece of the possibility that Hannah did not spring from Vinnie's loins??? Many mentions of the tidbit that Ginger was played by SS's daughter Eva (and the movie makes it clear that Ginger IS very much her mother's daughter). Nothing about the hanging plot thread. So, did I imagine it?
