And, yes, it had to do with RH, but it also was the story itself.

Malone didn't start out writing Todd as just plain bad. There was depth to the character, even though he was meant to be a throwaway plot device to sanctify Martyr. We saw Todd feeling conflicted about leaving Marty after they had casual sex and feeling angry about his grade because Malone wrote it that way. We saw that Todd was an asshole, at least in part, because his "father" raised him to be one and because Todd clearly craved Peter's approval. Why? Because that's how it was written. Those are humanizing touches. I don't have a point. I'm just rambling.
