Would make a world of difference to the show, and maybe to the ratings. Just think how much fun it would be for everyone to be able to get behind a story in one way or another. The major problem, imo, with the Toddian "looove" stories since the last balloon dropped has been the inexplicable need to decimate characters to promote whichever wife/couple is being pushed at the moment. Tea could have been a great character, and I know there are people I love very much who think she WAS a great character, but her soft side was twisted into what I saw as a clingy, abuse-sucking nightmare that pulled every good, interesting quality she had into its vortex. Blair was turned into a brainless bimbo and then into an aging hussy who kept getting stupider and stupider. And why? Was it necessary? Was it good for anybody?

My favorite part of the T&B/TnT dynamic was the night Tea went out the window. Why? For me, it was a shining moment when both female characters were, mostly, at their best. At that moment, I do not think Tea was trying to steal Blair's family. I think she was trying to win her case at any cost. I saw Tea's competitiveness take her way ahead of where she meant to go, much as it had when she decided to get a confession from Javier (whom I miss).

And, from Blair, I didn't see some racist cracker. I saw strength, fire, and pure territorial female rage. "Chiquita" and "Mommy" did not mean what they came to mean, when someone decided reducing the scene to its simplest parts would be a good direction for the entire story to take. They meant we were seeing two different, imperfect, aggressive (yes!) women at a critical moment in time. And it wasn't about a man, or even a child (except for Blair). It was about which bitch was queen bitch. And that's how I like my soaps to be.

I also think there's plenty of room for interesting women on any soap opera. They don't have to be identifiably good or bad, and their alliances can and should shift from time to time. Ideally, Tina would be between Blair and Tea a lot, because Tina and Blair do not get along, but they are actually a lot more alike than are Tina and Tea.

But I'm just moaning about what could have been, when I could be pissing about what is. Jen and Jess and Nat and Flash are losers. Adriana? Ish. Is this the future of Llanview? If it is, Llanview has no future.
