Subject: Sibling Rivalry

I just saw a preview for the movie The Other Boleyn Girl, and there were a few lines from the preview that caught my attention:

Mary Boleyn: We’re sisters
Anne Boleyn: And therefore born to be rivals.

(later in the preview)Mary Boleyn: Because she is my sister. And therefore, one half of me.

I haven’t read the book nor have I seen the movie but just from the preview there seems to be pretty clear mimetic desire happening. The lines from the preview reminded me of how much similarity can spawn violence/conflict. In this case they both have similar desires (i.e. Henry VIII) and are very close to each other because they are sisters. From the preview it seems like Anne is more focused on getting the power (than the man but at the same time through the man) especially when it looks as if Henry favors Mary.
