I think there's certainly a relation between the two. When we sin, we are still doing wrong by pushing God away from us, which grieves him. He has given us a chance for peace, and instead we willfully create violence. However, the answer is not more violence. We are not trying to appease the anger of God. Rather, we push ourselves away from God through our sin. God desires not sacrifice but a broken heart, but if we don't repent, we are at odds with God.
This would be just like when you wrong your mother. Spanking you might be a mechanism for deterrence, but it certainly does not relieve the guilt. The only way to restore the bond between you and your mother is through repentance and tears.
So yes, there is a relationship between sin and God, but sin does not diminish God's honor, demanding a quick fix through blood. Rather, sin is our turning away from God.
