Subject: Rersponsibility in Long Day's Journey

I'm sure everyone picked up on the the throwing of blame throughout Long Day's Journey. Repeatedly, even whenever things seem to have calmed down, someone starts throwing blame onto a scapegoat who reciprocates and the cycle starts over again. But there are a few moments when a character actually takes responsibility for the situation. This would seem to offer a way out of their little sacrificial crisis; however, does the claiming of blame need to be sincere to help anything? We've talked some about how everyone wants to be the victim in a post-christ society. Mary Tyrone often takes responsibility, but nearly always in such a way as to claim victimhood. The line that I don't know what to make of comes from James: "More of your morbidness? There's nothing wrong with life, it's we who - 'the fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars but in ourselves....'"

Is Tyrone claiming guilt sincerely? He seems to be removing blame from any third party and for a moment blaming himself. Would this be enough to put their home back together if every member of the Tyrone family reciprocated this sentiment?
