Something else that sturck me as being similar to Oedipus is the constant wishing and, indeed, pleading to forget any and all unpleasant information that has been, throughout the course of the play and before, discovered. It struck me as being quite similar to Choragos's wish that Oedipus had never discovered the truth and Jocaste's consistent plea to forget this mission that Oedipus is on and not dig any further for information. Mary pleads to the family that they "mustn't remember" her past addictions and just move forward, and Tyrone also tells Mary to "forget the past" when she begins to remember her struggles after Edmund's birth. They remain convinced that if they were to forget it would solve everything, not unlike Jocaste and Choragos's beliefs, but Mary points out in the first act "How can any one of us forget? That's what makes it so hard--for all of us. We can't forget" (48)
