I don�t think that taking Christ as our model would eliminate �original sin� (which in the context we�re using it means �the fact that all sin�). We would have to imitate Christ from birth in order not to sin, and what�s more, we�d have to imitate him perfectly. Moreover, we would have to do so without ever viewing him as a rival. The last two of these are possible in theory, but the first one is not, because our first models always are the sinful people who raise us. When Girard says, �It is impossible for such a human being to arise in a world completely ruled by violence and the myths based on violence,� he may as well add that it is impossible to have a human world (in this life at least) that is not ruled by violence and the myths based on violence (Things Hidden 218).
