Along the idea of superheroes...They obviously readily lend themselves to scapegoating, as their powers easily mark them as different. Also, they are often "confused" with the cause of whatever chaos is attacking the city. I think that it is also interesting to not the way in which superheroes and their arch-villans are either polar opposites or strangely similar (an idea pursued rather intrigingly in the movie Unbreakable). Sometimes they are caused by the same catastrophe or phenomenon, or are afflicted with similar weaknesses, like Batman and all his villans being plagued with insanity. I wonder if this is at all related to the idea of the scapegoat/victim being both the poison and the cure.

Also, the superhero almost always has to defend the innocent and fight evil because of a breakdown in the judicial or governing authority that usually innacts justice within the city. Thus, as Dr. Jackson illustrated in class, they must recourse to vigilanty "justice" until order can be restored.
