I don't think that jealousy is necessarily mimetic. The point in these examples is not that David desires to have what this Red Whiskered fellow wants, but rather that David wants Dora and this Red Whiskered fellow is getting in the way. Apparently he wants Dora for whatever reason, unrelated to Whiskers. And he only uses jealousy as a means of getting Dora.
