No, no, I'm not talking about mere jealousy. I'm saying that David knows his position is threatened, so he attaches himself to another girl as if he intuits that Dora's mimetic desire will kick in, knowing that she will see him with another girl, and hoping that that other girl will become a mediator to Dora and strengthen Dora's desire for David.

(not intended to be a full post, just clearing up my position)
